Repenting of Pride

Posted in Personal Revival. Hits: 715

Intention:

Pray that God will move upon our hearts, to reveal the PRIDE within that keeps us from fully depending upon Him and from doing His will in all things.

Scripture:

"Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."    ~ Proverbs 16:18

Reflection:

Satan himself is the source of all pride in man, which is why this sin is so deeply embedded in each of our souls. This is one sin that must be searched out with the searchlight of the Holy Spirit, because without the help of God, this sin is almost "invisible" to us. Hence, we must each ask our Lord to visit us in His grace and in His mercy to help us to know where and how this culprit is hidden in our hearts, and to know the way of escape through His Shed Blood on the Cross of Calvary.

When Satan confronted Eve in the garden, he asked this question: "Did God really say . . .?"  (Gen. 3:1) At the very beginning of time, Satan showed up to challenge the authority of the Holy One of Israel, and to set man upon his course of depending upon his own wisdom, and not that of his Maker.

The good news is that Satan is now a defeated foe - defeated on that Cross of Calvary. He no longer has authority over us, but we have authority over him as we repent of our sins (including that of pride) turn from our own wicked ways, and walk in the glorious presence of our Lord once again.

In Luke 10: 17-20, it is written: "17 The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in Your name."18 And He said to them, "I was watching Satan fall from heaven like lightning. 19 Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will injure you. 20 Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are recorded in heaven."

Even though God has now granted us this great authority and power to "tread upon . . . all the power of the enemy," we nevertheless rejoice in His goodness, for "our names (now) are recorded in heaven."
Amen!

Prayer:

Almighty God, Maker of Heaven and Earth, we ask Your Grace to shine upon us today, as we seek Your face to turn from our wicked ways.  Abba Father, we ask You to cause the searchlight of Your Truth to shine upon our inward man, that we might discern the snares the evil one has embedded in our souls for our destruction.

We repent of our pride, and we ask for Your mercy to visit us. "Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent of great transgression." (Psalm 19:13)

We freely admit, dear Lord, that without You, we are helpless to live uprightly in these perilous times, but with You in our lives, we are empowered to do your will, and to satisfy Your heart, because it is written, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

Help us, Lord, we beseech Thee, to empower us to walk the walk that You require, shown in Micah 6:8. It is written: " . . . what does the LORD require of you, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?"   Together, we glory in Your Holy Name, and in the reality of the Love You have already demonstrated in each of our lives, poured out on that Cross. In Jesus' name, amen.

Continue in prayer using the 4 prayer points as the Lord leads you.

 Four Prayer points:

1.    Help us to recognize the evil and rebellion within ourselves.
2.    Help us to TURN AWAY from this evil.
3.    Give us a genuine contriteness through prayer, fasting and sincere REPENTANCE.
4.    Heal our land so that we may become a beacon once again shedding Your Light throughout the world.
