The Lord of Hosts, who is also our creator and redeemer,
It is so hot and dry; and I pray for relief; I ask you to remember your creation and to send cooler temps and moisture – oh, Lord we need moisture – we need your gentle, refreshing rain, and even more Lord we need YOU! As there is a drought in the land, and people and plants and animals are thirsty, oh, God, may there be a thirst for You and Your ways. As the deer pants for water, so may we desperately pant for You.
Forgive us, your people, for our sense of entitlement and that you are here for Us, rather than we are here for YOU and Your purposes. Forgive us for complacency and for "oh, well, whatever will be-- will be attitude" that affects us when we look at government, education, military, entertainment, church, family, and marketplace challenges/issues. Forgive us for thinking of our own comfort and convenience more than seeking You and Your plans for us. Forgive us for not taking your word seriously and rightly applying it to our lives and circumstances.
Forgive us for being molded more by our culture than by Your word. Bring to our minds, anything that we have thought, said or done that indicates we have not loved You with all of our heart, mind, soul and strength or loved our neighbor as ourselves. We confess the particulars of those sins, renounce patterns of thinking and acting that are not reflective of Jesus' character, and ask you to forgive us. And we ask that then Jesus Christ will rule in those areas of thinking and acting so that we can bring You honor and glory and fulfill Your plans.
Use the fires to purify your land, to reclaim it for Your honor and glory and purposes. We thank you in advance for the good that You have planned which will emerge from these troubling fires.
Send Your Spirit to quench the fires. May we walk humbly in step with the Spirit, looking to You, our covenant-keeping God, and to Jesus, our Redeemer for your divine strategies and interventions for the fires as well as all other problems we face. . Raise up Your people in strategic places to propose and implement Your plans regarding the fires. Protect the men and women who are fighting the fires, and give them Your divine strategies and thoughts. Prevent anyone who might consider doing something that would ignite additional fires.
Thank you that You are in control, and that even now You are upsetting the plans of the enemy and thus will bring honor and glory to Your name. We don't pretend to understand how You will do this, but we trust that You are actively involved in these times. By the all powerful name of Jesus, we bind up the work of the enemy in these fires and cast his plans and strategies at the foot of the cross and declare his plans null and void because of Jesus' work on the cross.
You have said that You will not yield Your glory to another. Thank you for Your promise and Your all sufficiency.
Be our rock, our shelter, and our hiding place. You are our protector, defender and provider. We especially pray that these characteristics of You will become evident to all who have suffered loss through these fires. We acknowledge the paradox, and yet affirm that You have the plans to bring beauty out of ashes, and to create something new out of the chaos that occurred when their worlds were turned upside down. Encourage and comfort those who have lost so much through these fires, and give them hearts to seek you in the midst of their tragedies. Surprise them with Your joy and Your presence!
Use these fires to "ignite" your body of Jesus in Colorado to continually seek and honor Your name and Your ways of justice, mercy, righteousness, love, and faithfulness. May Your grace and mercy be extended to all Coloradoans. To You, who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to Your power that is at work within us, to You be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever.
May all who agree with this prayer, say AMEN through the wonderful, powerful and holy name of Jesus the Christ.
